Energizing high and extra-high voltage lines during restoration

In energizing power transmission lines, operators are oftennconcerned with: the length of line to be energized; the adequacy ofnonline generation; and the size of underlying load. There has been anneed for a simple methodology to readily address these issues andnprovide guidelines for the safe operation of high voltage and extra-highnvoltage transmission lines. In this paper, a simple and approximatenapproach for evaluating sustained and transient voltages is presented.nThe sending- and receiving-end sustained and transient voltages arendetermined for energizing lines of different voltage levels and lengths,nenergized by different sizes of generators, and having different sizesnof underlying loads
