This paper presents an adaptive short-time compensation andnreclosing technique for improving power system stability and reducingnturbine-generator shaft torsional torques. The fundamental concept ofnthe proposed technique is to interrupt unsymmetrical faults onn“double-circuit” transmission lines using selective-polenswitching. The transmission system is then balanced by switching onncompensating capacitors in the interrupted phases. Adaptive reclosing isnthen applied to reclose the tripped phases and the compensatingncapacitors are switched off. The validity and effectiveness of thenproposed technique are demonstrated through time-domain simulationnstudies on a test system using the EMTDC program
