The Ibn Batutta is the first of four large self-propelled cutter suction dredgers with a total installed diesel power of 23,250 kW ordered by Belgium's Jan De Nul at the Pula shipyard. The keel laying is an important step in a ship's construction. As from now, the construction on the slipway of this cutter suction dredger can proceed. Launching of the Ibn Batutta is foreseen early 2009, delivery in the second half of 2009. The other three identical cutter suction dredgers ordered at the Uljanik shipyard are the Zheng He, the Fernao de Magalhaes and the JDN8067. They will be constructed in 2009-2010.
