Container traffic in the Puget Sound area is expected to more than double from its current 2.8mTEU a year by 2020. This only refers to the two Washington-state ports of Seattle and Tacoma. If the nearby port of Vancouver in British Colombia, Canada, is also included, then there are three major port facilities each facing the same two distinct challenges.
