I was intrigued when Bob Stone, Cofounder of Health-ways, approached me with the concept for this supplement to the Journal. With the untimely demise of the Medicare Health Support demonstration projects as the focus, he envisioned a collection of commentaries and articles that would address the perceived strengths and weaknesses of existing programs, present new models, and discuss analytic methods to achieve more accurate assessments of the value of disease management.
