In practical applications, a polymer is usually used together with others, where the aging behavior will become more complex than the polymer used individually. The interactions between adjacent polymers during aging are the cross-infection effects. in this study, the cross-infection between unstabilized polypropylene (PP) and seven typical polymers during thermo-oxidation was investigated by using chemiluminescence (CL) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The changes of peak times by CL and functional groups by FTIR were chosen as the indicators. Thermo-oxidation of most of the seven polymers was accelerated by unstabilized PP, and different polymers had different susceptibility. In return, the acceleration of the typical polymers on unstabilized PP could also be observed. Cross-infection was thus demonstrated a common phenomenon in thermo-oxidation of various kinds of polymers. Inappropriate polymer combinations used together might cause mutual accelerated deterioration. These results were of great significance to industrial applications. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd.
