ITER: Japan Is the Best Host Country

There have been a great progress both in high temperature plasma research and fusion engineering and technologies, and both physics and technology preparation, as well as the design of ITER, are ready to start construction. From a grand view point that the reduction of difference of level of life in the world is the basic key to the peace of the world, as shown by recent happenings in the world, it is one of the very important elements that large scale, long range, peace-oriented international collaboration project be sited in a place other than the so-called western region of the world. From this point of view, ITER is the best candi- date project to be sited in Asia. Very fortunately, and as one of the unique point of the ITER project, three out of the seven Parties of the negotiation are Asian countries. Of course, it will be clearly stated in the Agreement that all results should be shared among theParties. It may be helpful to remember that ITER can not be used to any dangerous purpose at all.
