Barring an unlikely, last-ditch veto override, Ohio's energy efficiencyrnand renewable energy standards are poised to restart January 1rnfollowing a two-year hiatus after Republican Governor John Kasichrndefied his party and vetoed contentious energy legislation passed byrnthe GOP-controlled General Assembly earlier this month.rnHouse Bill 554 essentially would have rendered the standards —rn12.5% for the RPS and 22.1% for energy efficiency, both by 2027 —rnvoluntary for the state's electric utilities. Led by Republicans in thernHouse of Representatives and Senate, the two GOP-controlledrnchambers approved the bill 55–34 and 18–13, respectively — solidrnmajorities, but insufficient to override a veto.
