Duke-Piedmont merger advances

Duke Energy and Piedmont Natural Gas have reached a settlementrnwith the North Carolina Utilities Commission staff and several otherrnparties to complete the $4.9-billion merger of Piedmont into Duke, andrnhave submitted a proposed order to the NCUC.rnDuke spokesman Dave Scanzoni on Friday said the NCUC approvalrnwould be the last regulatory hurdle for the transaction, in whichrnPiedmont shareholders receive $60 for each share, and which wouldrnbring about 1 million retail customers from a 39,000-square-milernservice territory in North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
