Mexican gas demand growth faces challenges

Mexico's Energy Secretariat forecasts strong natural gas demand growth for the country's power sector, but analysts foresee multiple challenges for this to happen. The secretariat, known as SENER, projects gas demand for power generation to grow 2.7% annually until 2031. In its National Electric System Development Program 2017-2031 (PRODESEN), SENER said it expects demand to grow to 1,658,158 Tj by 2031 from 1,144,682 Tj currently.
