California PUC adopts resource planning framework aimed to cut emissions

In a major change to the power procurement process in California, utility regulators unanimously approved Thursday an integrated resource planning framework that is designed to help the Golden State slash its greenhouse gas emissions. “This is a really big deal,” said Clifford Rechtschaffen, California Public Utilities Commission commissioner. “It’s groundbreaking … moving towards a holistic greenhouse gas reduction paradigm.” Under the framework, load serving entities are required to file their resources plans for California Public Utilities Commission approval by August 1.
