ERCOT spot power prices slip as demand, temperatures fall

ERCOT spot power prices trended lower on June 9, with falling demand and temperatures putting downwards pressure on the electricity market. ERCOT North Hub day-ahead on-peak fell about $4 from the June 8 Intercontinental Exchange settled price of $29.00/MWh to trade around $25.00/MWh. ERCOT North Hub real-time off-peak package moved in the opposite direction, rising about 75 cents to be valued around $12.25/ MWh. In forwards packages, prices were trending in the same direction as the spot market, with ERCOT North Hub real-time package for the months of July and August trading down about $5.85 at around $109.45/MWh. Demand is forecast to drop on the day, which could be putting downwards pressure on the spot electricity market. According to ERCOT data, peakload demand is projected to fall from 69.3 GW on June 9 to 61.5 GW on June 10, a drop of over 11%. This June 10 level of peakload demand is expected to be the lowest level seen through the next seven day.
