This summer’s tight supply conditions in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas footprint indicate substantial upside risk for power prices, which forwards have yet to price, an S&P Global Platts Analytics report showed. “The growth of low-cost wind and gas-fired generation throughout ERCOT has steadily flattened the lower portion of the resource stack, resulting in an increasingly sharp inflection point when reserves get low,” Travis Whalen said in a North American Electricity Special Report entitled, “Will ERCOT summer pricing boil over?”
