The head of the Czech nuclear regulator, the State Office for NuclearSafety, or SUJB, has warned that the government and power companyCEZ should not count on extended operations for the country’s sixnuclear units, despite the faster than expected phase out of coal-firedplants and delays to launching a tender for a new reactor.“The certainty that [the] Dukovany units will be working after 2045is a rosy scenario," said SUJB chairwoman Dana Drabova in aninterview on Czech television May 2. She was referring to the prospectthat the four 505-MW reactors, which started operations between 1985and 1987, would be allowed to operate for 60 years.
