EIM planners briefed on 'ambitious' roadmap for series of market development plans

The Western Energy Imbalance Market Governing Body on Wednesday received a briefing on the 2020 policy initiatives roadmap and annual plan that prioritizes the areas of focus for the next three years. Primary drivers of the proposed three-year roadmap are to manage operational risk resulting from a transforming grid, enhance the market to provide the right price symbols, continue enhancements to the EIM such as integration into the day-ahead market, comprehensive reforms the ISO’s resource adequacy rules; and integrate new technologies, said Greg Cook, EIM market and infrastructure policy executive director. A new flexible ramping product enhancements initiative, to be developed by the fall with deliverable solutions in place by fall 2021, will address issues identified in the price performance analysis, which identified the need to improve deliverability of market products, Cook said. The impact increases as you move from real-time to the extended day-ahead market.
