The government announced in October an ambitious plan to increase gas output to a huge 1 Tcm a day by 2030. This represents a 50% increase from current production of about 650 Bcm/year. "Our producers can and must meet the growing demand for gas, secure stable supply for Russian consumers and maintain and expand their presence on international markets," Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said in mid-October, presenting the aggressive plan at a governmental meeting on developing the gas industry.
