An agreement has been readied between lurkey and Azerbaijan that makes it increasingly likely that both an open season for the proposed Nabucco gas pipeline and final sanction for the giant Shakh Deniz gas field's second phase will go ahead this year. This marks a political rapprochement between Ankara and Baku at the highest level, but leaves in doubt recent enthusiasm for plans to ship gas directly across the Black Sea.
