Kompania Weglowa implements work stoppages

Poland's largest hard coal miner Kompania Weglowa instituted work stoppages in April designed to reduce output and costs in what may herald a major restructuring of the company. Management planned to halt production at nine of KW's 15 mines for eight days, from April 28 to May 5, with stoppages for administrative staff starting earlier. An estimated 400,000 mt of production will be lost. KW management said the stoppage is necessary, owing to falling demand for coal from its main power sector customers.
