Los Angeles DWP reconsiders gas-fired generation plans

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said in June that it is considering alternatives, such as adding renewable generation and upgrading power lines, to replace about 2,100 MW of natural gas-fired generation that is set to be retired. LADWP owns three gas-fired coastal power plants - Harbor, Haynes and Scattergood - that use oncethrough- cooling technology, which is being phased out under California law. The plants' combined capacity totals 2,839 MW and represent the majority of LADWP's 3,415 MW fleet in the Los Angeles Basin, according to the utility's 2016 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP).
