Despite a low number of bids, given the number ofrnprequalified companies, Mexico’s first offshore deepwaterrnbid round can be considered a success, with 10 of the 12rnblocks on offer being awarded. The bid round attractedrnmajor oil companies, such as Statoil, ExxonMobil, BP, Total,rnPetronas and the China National Offshore Oil Company,rnwhich have solid experience in deepwater exploration andrnproduction in the US Gulf of Mexico and worldwide. JuanrnCarlos Zepeda, president of Mexico’s National HydrocarbonsrnCommission (CNH) said the capital investmentrncommitments made by companies totaled about $4 billion.
