Venezuela's downward spiral may be reaching a conclusion. The government has begun to default on its debts. Imports of the oil it needs to blend with its own heavy crude have dropped. Oil production is expected to decline further in 2018. President Nicolas Maduro is now turning his guns on the enemy within, in an attempt to ward off challenges from inside his socialist movement, ahead of next year's presidential election.
