RWE develops CCGT heat store

RWE Power is developing a high temperature heat store facility for CCGT power stations. Use of heat stores will allow power generation and heat supply to occur at different times, the company says. Heat produced during the day that is surplus to customer needs can be "parked" for use at night when the turbine is switched off. This flexibility - that cogen CCGTs currently do not have - will be increasingly important as the amount of intermittent capacity in the generating mix grows, RWE says.
