Eneco's H1 net profit up 77%

Eneco achieved a 77% year-on-year rise in net profit to €133 million in the first half of 2011, the Dutch utility reported September 6, reflecting a combination of cost control and higher revenues from energy sales and regulated networks. Revenue was stable at €2.51 billion while consolidated operating profit was €225 million, up 55% compared with the first half of 2010. The company's energy division posted a €19 million increase in operating profit to €92 million on stable revenue of €1.95 billion. Sales volumes of electricity climbed to 12.68 TWh from 11.89 TWh while gas sales fell from 3,674 million cu m to 3,251 million cu m and district heat from 7,622 TJ to 6,767 TJ. Return on capital employed grew strongly, up to 6.2% from 3.6%.
