Gelderland offline after explosion

An explosion damaged a boiler at Electrabel's 590-MW Gelderland coal-fired power plant at Nijmegen in the eastern Netherlands, Electrabel said November 8. Electrabel spokesman Stefan Wesselink said that by the afternoon an investigation into the cause of the incident was underway, with the police and fire brigade on site to assist. "There is hole punched through the roof of the boiler building through which high-pressure steam is escaping, causing a lot of noise," Electrabel said that morning in a statement on its Dutch website. There was no question of a fire, it said.
