German TSO to integrate Shell virtual power plant, plans 4 GW offshore links

German grid operator Amprion has integrated a virtual power plant(VPP) owned by Shell into its balancing market, it said Nov. 10.The sonnenVPP in the mid-double digit MW-scale pools homestorage batteries by Sonnen in Germany in clusters of up to 2 MW withthe pool operated by Next Kraftwerke.Shell acquired both companies as part of its energy transition driveinto power markets.The VPP has qualified to supply primary control reserve energy(FCR) in the Amprion control area of Western Germany.
