Hawaiian Electric seeks 100 MW of renewables, online by 2013-14

Hawaiian Electric said last week it is looking for a company to build a large renewable energy project on the island of Oahu, as it issued a request for proposals for up to 100 MW of long-term renewable energy. The RFP is primarily soliciting non-firm generation, but the company will consider proposals for firm energy resources as long as they qualify under the Hawaii Renewable Portfolio Standard. The utility prefers resources that would begin operations before 2013, but would consider resources that come online in 2014. Bidders may propose a term of 20 years from the date of commercial operations.
