Cal-ISO draft proposal eyes clearing generation interconnection backlog

The California Independent System Operator Wednesday issued a draft proposal to clear the existing backlog of requests in its generation interconnection process. Cal-ISO said new procedures are needed to handle an unprecedented proliferation of interconnection requests that have overwhelmed available staffing resources, led to delays, and exposed fundamental shortcomings in the pro forma processes created by Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Order 2003, the large generator interconnection process, or LGIP, rule, which uses a serial generation interconnection study approach.
