摘要

Science educators are hearing the message loud and clear, from their graduates struggling to find work and from employers complaining that those they hire are insufficiently prepared: College science education needs a major adjustment. With a $1 million endowment, small (1500 students) Carthage College, a four-year liberal-arts school in Kenosha, Wisconsin, is adjusting by creating an "entrepreneurial studies program" designed to help science graduates work easily in the business environment that overlays much of modern science, whether in industry or at government facilities. About a dozen students are registered for the first course, to be taught in the fall. The physicist who heads the program, Douglas Arion, believes it is the only such program in the US at the undergraduate level.
