Patients with Gaucher disease who develop skeletal complications often require pain management, from non-steroidals to opiods. Ozone therapy is a modality of alternative medicine that has been advocated for the relief of pain, ischemia, inflammation and infections. Autohemotherapy was administered once a week for 12 weeks in nine patients. There were no adverse effects whereas all nine patients achieved significant improvement in pain and pain related interference with function. The purpose of this audit was to ascertain both objective and subjective data on safety and efficacy after ozone autohemotherapy which is not a licensed medical therapy. In this clinical audit, we have observed substantial improvement in pain intensity and in pain related interference with function among patients with bone pain due to Gaucher disease when treated with ozone autohemotherapy.
