The word "audit" probably makes you shudder-and for good reason. Tax audits have done plenty to forever tarnish the word. Knowing you're going to be audited is a nightmare scenario. However, there's one type of audit that, as a webmaster, you should eagerly embrace-a website performance audit. A performance audit usually contains two phases: First the audit. In this phase, you benchmark your site's performance and then run some analytics to see what's slowing your site down. In the second phase, you take action to optimize your site, making it faster and more efficient. This column focuses on the audit phase.
