The Thrill Effect in Medical Treatment: Thrill Effect as aTherapeutic Tool in Clinical Health Care (Esp. MusicTherapy)

The Thrill Effect is a strong and powerful reaction of the whole psycho-somatic sys-tem to an "appropriate" stimulus under supporting circumstances. The - quite different - studiesuntil today have found a large variety of symptoms, especially during and/or after musicalstimulation (music therapy) [1, 2, 3, 4]. Nowadays it is known that the thrill phenomenon af-fects the human body and mind strongly through music [1]. PET images of the human brainduring thrill effect show that thrill may have good emotionally positive effects [5, 6].This studywith European music-therapists affirms these findings while also highlighting the effect's mainhazards and the differentiation from strong emotions. Supporting factors were identified. In ad-dition positive influences on the success of therapies were shown. In depth research on theThrill Effect its supporting factors and the development of appropriate methods for inductionand encouragement will be most helpful in influencing the outcome of many form of therapy.This non-pharmacological therapeutic research could be a scientific challenge for Neuroscienceof Music, Music Psychology and their clinical application.
