After audit, New York wants changes in toll road contracts

New York State's comptroller says that its two suppliers at Thruway travel plazas overcharged customers last year for gasoline.rnState contracts are divided between 16 Sunoco flagged stations and 13 Mobil sites, with the latter supplied by Lehigh Oil. The comptroller performed an audit of some sites' pump prices and released results last week.rnUnder contract terms, Sun and Lehigh are required to survey local competitors' street prices (off the toll road) and use those numbers to establish pump prices on the Thruway. The audit of eight stations from May 1 through Aug. 31, 2008 found overcharges ranging from 2cts/gal to 26cts/gal. The Thruway authority also said that prices were sometimes changed a day earlier than they should have been, and that the survey process was flawed so that vendors could benchmark versus higher prices.
