STATOIL PUTS WIND IN SAILS OF FLOATING OFFSHORE PROJECT

In November 2015, Statoil confirmed that it had made a final investment decision to build the world's first floating windfarm - the Hywind pilot park offshore Peterhead in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Its decision to do so is an important step forward for offshore wind technology, particularly given the number of floating offshore wind projects that are being proposed and widespread recognition that floating offshore wind can help drive down the cost of energy generated from offshore wind. Statoil's decision triggers an investment of around NKr2 billion (US$232 million) by the company.
