MacGregor's three-axis motion-compensated offshore crane, which won the Innovation of the Year Award at OSJ's fifth annual conference and awards event in London on 19 February, has aroused a great deal of interest since it was first detailed in OSJ last year. The crane is the first of its kind, not just for MacGregor, but for the offshore industry as a whole, and was developed after MacGregor was approached by Siem Offshore to develop an innovative type of crane for Siem Moxie. The first example of this groundbreaking design was due to be delivered to Siem Offshore in March 2014. Although Siem Moxie will operate in the renewable energy markets, servicing offshore windfarms, the crane and vessel are equally capable of being used in the offshore oil and gas sector.
