BigRoll's MC-class module carriers are due to be available on the heavy-lift market at the end of 2014/beginning of 2015. The vessels have been designed with a focus on reduced loading and discharging times, a high service speed and low level of accelerations, in order to protect cargo from ship-induced motion. The vessels will have dynamic positioning to DP2 standard and Finnish Swedish 1A ice-class notation. With an overall length of 169m and beam of 42m, they will have deck space of 42m by 125m and a maximum deadweight of 22,500 tonnes. In order to maximise the free deck space to make the new class of heavy lifters as flexible as possible the main deck is completely free of manholes, air vents and other obstructions. Loading and discharging will be accomplished over vessels' stern or side by roro or skidding. To minimise loading and discharging time the ballast capacity of the vessel is 12,000 m~3/hr. The new module carriers are not semi-submersible units, however.
