Stimulation treatments - of any type -make it easier for oil and gas to flow from a reservoir to the wellbore. This is done by removing damage to the formation and by providing paths of increased conductivity from deep in the reservoir to the wellbore. This means that less energy is required to move the reservoir fluids to the wellbore, which in turn means that there is more energy left to flow the fluids to the surface, so the well flows at a higher rate. Stimulation can turn a non-productive well into a productive well, a bad well into a good well and a good well into a world-class well - all by making it easier for the reservoir fluids to flow. The need for well stimulation vessels arises because, in many cases, there are no alternatives to vessel-based stimulation services. The quantity of equipment and materials required for even a medium-sized treatment means that there simply isn't enough physical space on most platforms or drilling rigs, even before such considerations as deck loading and crane capacity are taken into account.
