NIGERIAN OWNER TURNS TO INNOVATIVE DESIGNER FOR SUBSEA VESSEL

Delivered in January 2015, African Inspiration is the first offshore vessel to have been designed in Norway specifically for a West African company. The Havyard 857 inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) vessel was built for Marine Platforms Ltd (MPL). Cemre shipyard in Turkey built the hull, which was launched in 2014, and the ship was completed at the Havyard yard in Norway. MPL was a new customer for Havyard and operates in a region where few Havyard vessels - whether owned by a West African company or chartered in from an international contractor - have operated until now. MPL is an indigenous Nigerian company offering a range of services to the offshore oil and gas industry in West Africa. These include services ranging from completions and subsea services to vessel chartering. It also provides manpower services such as seafastening design, installation and removal and provides remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), specialised ROV tooling, diving, subsea integrity management, submarine cable services and project design and engineering.
