CHANGES ARE COMING TO FMEA GUIDANCE

Braemar Engineering Wavespec has designed an interactive failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) that will assist technical and non-technical clients to understand the contents of these important safety documents. Conventional FMEAs, written for DP systems on offshore vessels, are sometimes complicated to follow and may not necessarily be kept up to date. There can be confusion concerning who is responsible for ensuring that the FMEA is accurate and sufficient to meet oil company requirements. Braemar manager of offshore and DP projects Ted Brooking thinks interactive FMEAs will simplify the extraction of information and enable crew to become more familiar with the consequences of system failures. He thinks it would be an easy-to-use format that offers a full training and examination module on the FMEA and other safety documents that could be tailored to suit company or vessel requirements.
