Govt speeds up asbestos compensation

Faster payments for people diagnosed with mesothelioma as a result of exposure to asbestos have moved a step closer with the launch of a new scheme that will provide up-front financial support for those people who have previously faced difficulties getting any financial compensation from the state.rnCurrently, only people who contract the disease from exposure to asbestos at work are eligible to claim a lump sum compensation payment from the Government under the Pneumoconiosis etc (Workers' Compensation) Act 1979.
