The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 200S came into effect in October 2006 and swept away over 70 different pieces of fire safety law. The Order applies to all non-domestic premises in England and Wales, including the common parts of blocks of flats and houses in multiple occupation. (In Scotland, requirements on general fire safety are covered in Part 3 of the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005. supported by the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006).
