Asbestos control

Trade unionists and safety campaigners have been marking the 20th anniversary of the UK ban on asbestos. After years of campaigning, the Asbestos (Prohibitions) (Amendment) Regulations 1999 came into force on November 24, 1999, making it illegal to use or import asbestos into the UK. This was an important victory, but the fight against exposure to asbestos continues with a shift to highlighting and tackling the ongoing risk from the thousands of tonnes of the deadly material still present in our national infrastructure.
