Eight per cent of OH professionals working in the NHS believe that employee health confidentiality is breached frequently, compared with just 2% of those working exclusively in either the private or other public sectors 6. One-third of all respondents report that'issues of confidentiality' have caused them problems at work - in extreme cases, practitioners have left their job because of it or have been threatened with dismissal for not giving managers the information they sought 7. The vast majority of OH nurses and physicians believe that HR managers should be regulated by a professional code of conduct and ethics; three-quarters say this should be regulated by the CIPD.
