摘要

Researchers at the Barbara Walker Centre for Pain Management in Fitzroy, Australia, say that while cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is an important intervention for people with chronic pain, vocational outcomes are rarely reported in scientific literature. Darren White and colleagues carried out a retrospective cohort on patients referred to a hospital pain clinic and who had been clinically assessed as having persistent pain for which no further treatment was indicated.rnA total of 360 patients were referred to a CBT-based programme known as START (selected targets of activity re-training).The analysis is based on follow-up of 209 individuals who started the programme between 1998 and 2005 and who had not been referred in a medico-legal context. They were assessed for physical, psychological and vocational outcomes, including work status, hours of work, intention to return to work (RTW) and barriers to RTW.The vocational outcomes were incorporated into a new'vocational continuum'scale.
