HEALTHCARE WORKERS WITH HIV

In a move to bring the UK into line with most other Western countries, healthcare professionals who have HIV, and who are undergoing treatment, will be able to take part in certain medical and dental procedures from which they are currently banned, the Department of Health (DoH) has announced. The move was announced alongside an update to the rules about self-testing, meaning people will be able to buy HIV self-testing kits as soon as kits comply with regulations. Kits will be controlled and authorised by the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Authority.This will give people more choice about how and when to get tested and, it is hoped, will encourage earlier treatment, and therefore reduce the risk of new HIV infections, said the DoH. Currently, the rules prevent HIV self-testing kits being sold in England.
