It seems like most innovative, amazing, earth-shaking technologies never actually make it out of the research labs, so it's gratifying to report that Intel's tri-gate transistor technology — first disclosed back in 2002 — is ready for ramped-up production. Some 63 years after the invention of the silicon transistor, a fundamentally different design will be implemented within a 22 nm microprocessor codenamed "Ivy Bridge."
