Taipower anticipates replacing Maanshan steam generators

Taiwan Power Co. will replace the steam generators for its two reactors at Maanshan by 2020, but only after it and Taiwan's government decide to extend the lifetime of both units, Taipower executives said last month.rnThe Westinghouse PWRs, with three steam generators, each went into operation in 1984 and 1985, respectively. Their current 40-year operating licenses will expire in 2024 and 2025. Taipower wants to operate them for an extended lifetime if possible. Sources said the decision on replacements would depend on the results of a feasibility study under preparation and whether life extension is approved by Taiwan's regulator, the Atomic Energy Council, or AEC.
