The seam generator (1') comprises a base (2') that is permanently connected to the appliance with a detachable steam chamber (14'). The heating element (6') is attached to the base which has a seat (4') in which a hollow body (3') of a complimentary shape fits tightly. If scale builds up in the hollow body it can be readily removed and replaced with a similarly shaped body without replacing the heating element.
