UK nuclear industry says AGR life extensions are key to short-term power supply

The UK nuclear sector and an industrial union have welcomed EDF Energy's announcement of operating lifetime extensions that will see the lives of eight AGRs extended for between five and seven years as critical to the country's near-term electricity supply. Tom Greatrex, the chief executive of the Nuclear Industry Association UK, said in a February 16 statement that the lifetime extensions were "welcome news," adding that "the investment in keeping stations running helps maintain the UK’s security of supply."
