Fluor, BEH to cooperate on new nuclear units in Bulgaria

Texas-based Fluor Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding with the state-owned Bulgarian Energy Holdings to explore the possibility of new nuclear units in Bulgaria, the two companies said in separate statements Oct. 28. The companies agreed to cooperate in evaluating potential program management services, front-end engineering, and evaluation of Bulgaria’s existing coal-fired fleet so that these sites could be repurposed for the possible development of small modular reactors. Fluor is the majority owner of NuScale Power, which is developing a 77-MW SMR design which has yet to be deployed.
