VTR final environmental impact statement coming this summer, director says

Development of the Versatile Test Reactor, a fast research reactor planned by the US Department of Energy, has been unaffected by the coronavirus pandemic and the final environmental impact statement is expected to be completed this summer, the head of the project said April 9. The start of operations is expected between 2026 and 2031 and depends in part on the pace of congressional appropriations for the effort, said Kemal Pasamehmetoglu, executive director of the VTR project at the Idaho National Laboratory, during an online presentation sponsored by the Atlantic Council.
